Trip to Brisbane, November 2007Views of the cityBrisbane sits in a beautiful spot along a winding portion of the Brisbane river. It is a surprisingly compact city of 1.5m residents with great climate. Views of the city from Mt. Coot-ha:
Brisbane does not have the Sydney' wow factor, but it seems quite livable. The main attraction is the river.
City Cats are the preferred mode of transportation.
Brisbane river by night. Near our hotel.
The moon rising over the bridge.
Downtown is like a cleaner version of Sydney. Queen St Mall.
A Kangaroo on the streets of Brisbane
The Casino.
The famous South Bank.
HousingReal estate prices are about 2/3 of Sydney. Still expensive. But nice views.
Other products are, unfortunately, expensive as well. Used 3-series BMWs for $100,000 anyone?
The area across the river from the university is quite scenic.
Many of the houses are less scenic. One reason is that older houses are protected, regardless of condition. This would be about $500k.
Note the elegant "underbody." Apparently, the stilts can be replaced while the body of the house is off limits to serious modifications.
In less desirable condition...
Waterfront raises the price. $12m anyone?
The local German restaurant - Black Forest Cafe.
Much more attractive housing along the river towards the ocean.
