Year 2008 in Pictures (Part 2)

Our next trip: Boston in July.
We appended this to the NBER Summer Institute.
We walked the entire Freedom Trail and then some, ...
took a ferry to dinner, and ...
hung out in Boston Harbor.
In October, we spent a weekend on the NC shore near Wilmington. The weather was summer-like (in the 80s F). The water in the ocean was still reasonably warm and quite a few people were on the beach (don't judge by this picture though.)
Wilmington has a large collection of historic mansions, which continue to be used as private homes.
The town is famous for its film industry. It served as a set for well-known movies like "Forest Gump" and "I know what you did last summer".
In October, we also traveled to Chicago. Margarita spent a day working at the WFF Chicago office, the home office of her team, and I attendend a conference. The weekend we devoted to sightseeing.
The weater was cooperating. We took an architecture boat trip on the Chicago river, ...
went to Millennium Part (in the picture - a view of the skyline through the kidney located in Millennium Park), ...
spent some time on the the pier, admiring the city skyline, and
walked along the Lake Michigan shore and in Grant Park. We also visited the Art Institute of Chicago, had lunch on the 95th floor of John Hancock Center, walked the Magnificent Mile and took a peak inside the Rookery Building.
No year would be complete without a trip to Phoenix. We spent four wonderful days around Thanksgiving with our dearest friends Joan and Irving and their family. We also visited Jean and Victor and had, as always, a home-like Thanksgiving dinner at the Low's.
Of course, we spent a lot of time outside, enjoying the weather and scenery, and hiked our favorite trail - Pinnacle Peak.
The final trip of the year was Orlando, Florida, in early December. We stayed in the Animal Kingdom Lodge at Disney World, which is interestingly decorated...
...and has wildlife grazing all around the hotel grounds.

This was a view from our room's window. We could see giraffes, zebras, wildebeests and other savanna creatures.
We visited all four parks, but spent most of our time in Epcot.
The iconic golf ball at night. (We went to see the famous fireworks on the lake in Epcot.)
Epcot again (on the shore of Japan.)
Last day of our trip, we spent in Magic Kingdom, which is truly magic.

Christmas and New Year we celebrated at home, in Durham.
